CEDRUS N°12 • VESTIGIUM

Traces and Memory

VESTIGIUM explores the notion of traces and imprints, like the memory of a gesture left upon the surface of the material. Its design is composed of an irregular network of lines, segments and intersections that evoke fragments of an ancient structure or the successive marks left by time.

Between construction and disappearance, some lines appear clearly defined while others gradually fade or break away. This fragmented presence gives the rug a distinctive depth, as though its surface had preserved the remnants of a composition from the past.

Materials and Textures

Entirely crafted in high-pressure Handtufted in a refined blend of New Zealand wool and Bamboo, VESTIGIUM plays with differences in texture, relief and luminosity to gradually reveal its design.

The matte depth of the wool interacts with the natural sheen of Bamboo, allowing certain lines to emerge while others remain more discreet. The precision of the Handtufted technique allows these imprints to be worked at different levels, creating a graphic and tactile surface whose perception evolves with light and perspective.

The Imprint of Time

With VESTIGIUM, CEDRUS transforms the trace into a true graphic language. Lines overlap, intersect, emerge and break away like the remnants of a structure of which only the imprint remains. The design thus exists in a subtle balance between presence and disappearance, order and irregularity.

Like every CEDRUS creation, VESTIGIUM provides a starting point for a bespoke piece. Dimensions, shape and colours can be adapted to the project, as can the scale, proportions and density of the design, allowing its composition to be freely reinterpreted while preserving the tension between structure and disappearance that defines its identity.
