CEDRUS N°14 • STRATA

Layers and Formation

STRATA draws its inspiration from geological formations, where time, pressure and matter gradually shape landscapes composed of layers, fractures and transformations. Its composition is built through a succession of irregular surfaces that appear to have been layered, eroded and then recomposed over time.

Each area appears as a fragment of a larger whole. Organic contours divide the surface without imposing a perfectly regular geometry, creating a subtle balance between natural irregularity and architectural presence.

Materials and Textures

Entirely crafted in high-pressure Handtufted, STRATA explores a particularly rich interplay of natural fibres and textures. The border and the organic grooves running through the design are expressed in looped Hemp, bringing a rawer and more irregular character to the composition.

Areas of New Zealand wool cut pile provide depth and softness, while striated sections combine cut and loop wool to create a more structured linear texture. The juxtaposition of these different surfaces reveals a true stratification of material, where each area has its own relief and interacts differently with light and touch.

A Language of Matter

With STRATA, CEDRUS transforms material into a language of its own. Each layer becomes an element of the composition, like the trace of a gradual transformation. Textures meet, contours fragment and surfaces appear to interlock, creating a true tactile landscape.

Both structured and organic, STRATA brings a deeply grounded presence to the space, where the richness of the materials and the apparent simplicity of the design create depth, balance and quiet strength.

Like every CEDRUS creation, STRATA provides a starting point for a bespoke piece. Dimensions, shape and colours can be adapted to the project, as can the proportions, scale and distribution of the different layers, allowing its landscape of materials to be freely recomposed in response to the architecture of each space.
