Care

Preserving the beauty of your rugs

An ELSEN AND SON rug is designed to stand the test of time. To preserve its brilliance and quality, proper care is essential. We share our expertise to guide every client in maintaining their creation, whether made of wool, silk, organic natural fibres, exclusive f ibres, or more technical washable fibres.

General advice

  • Vacuum regularly to remove dust and particles, avoiding hard or rotating brushes that can pull out fibres and impoverish the rug.
  • Always use low suction intensity, even if it means making several passes over the same area.
  • Rotate the rug periodically to ensure even wear.
  • Protect from direct light exposure to maintain the vibrancy of colours, particularly for bleached organic fibres, generally referred to as BL (Bleach). Due to their natural characteristics, these shades can yellow if overexposed to sunlight. We also recommend limiting exposure to moonlight, which can reduce colour vibrancy. These precautions apply not only to rugs but to all household textiles.
  • Blot stains immediately with a clean, slightly damp cloth — except for vegetable silks and other cellulosic derivatives (such as V-Silk, Tropical Silk or Bamboo Silk), which do not tolerate water and generally cannot withstand contact with fluids. In these cases, strictly dry cleaning by specialised professionals is required.

Care according to fibres

Wools (New Zealand, Tibetan) & Animal silk

  • Delicate dry cleaning recommended.
  • Avoid aggressive chemicals.
  • Periodic professional cleaning restores shine and suppleness.

Exclusive washable and/or indoor–outdoor fibres (P-Wool, Mineral Silk, Ocean Silk, Premium PP, K-Silk)

  • Very easy to maintain thanks to their resistance.
  • Washable with clear water or mild solutions.
  • Important note: K-Silk, although washable, is intended for indoor use only.
  • For Premium PP: rapid drying is guaranteed, ideal for humid environments (spas, yachts, terraces).

Organic natural fibres (Hemp, Pineapple, Sisal, Allo/Nepalese nettle, Abaca)

  • Gentle cleaning with minimal humidity to preserve the fibre.
  • Vacuum cleaning recommended for routine maintenance.

Cellulosic fibres (vegetable silks such as V-Silk, Tropical Silk, Bamboo Silk, etc.)

  • Extreme delicacy required.
  • These fibres do not tolerate water and generally cannot withstand contact with fluids.
  • Dry cleaning only, carried out by specialised professionals.
