Made entirely by hand, each rug is crafted using techniques passed down from generation to generation: Handknotted, Handknitted, Handwoven or Handtufted. Knot after knot, loop after loop, these precise gestures demand patience, for every detail matters. The time required for these processes is the guarantee of their quality, embodying precision and artisanal excellence. This rare and demanding know-how rests on the humanity of those who perpetuate it — artisans whose hands transmit a centuries-old heritage, the fruit of collective memory and ancestral traditions. Our rugs combine the nobility of natural fibres – New Zealand wool, Tibetan wool, silk, alpaca, allo (also known as Himalayan nettle), hemp and abaca – with contemporary innovation, including our exclusive high-performance and washable fibres such as Mineral Silk, P-Wool, K-Silk and Premium PP. Thanks to the diversity of these materials and techniques, each rug naturally finds its place, whether in a classic, contemporary or resolutely avant-garde interior.
Each of our pieces is also an invitation to travel: a dialogue between cultures, inspirations and horizons that enriches both the sensory and aesthetic experience. One of the house’s iconic signatures, among many others, the border in hand-knotted Himalayan nettle expresses our commitment to detail, authenticity and artisanal excellence.
True to our values, Elsen and Son is also committed to social and environmental responsibility. We support children’s education projects in India, and we are developing major initiatives in favour of sustainability, notably through the creation of regenerated fibres derived from polymers collected from seas and oceans.
