The Primacy of Latin Origins

CEDRUS takes its name from the Latin cedrus, from which the word “cedar” derives. This symbolic choice asserts the identity of our new House, echoing the international success of its sister brand ELSEN AND SON, while also paying tribute to the Lebanese origins of its current director.

The cedar thus creates a natural connection between the different stories that shape the House today. While Mrs Elsen is Belgian, she now enjoys her retirement with her husband at their estate in Lebanon, a land for which the cedar is one of its most emblematic symbols. CEDRUS draws part of its identity from this encounter between Belgian heritage and Lebanese roots, while developing a resolutely contemporary expression of the rug.

True to this heritage, CEDRUS embodies a refined and distinctive approach to design, driven by exceptional fibres and a constant exploration of material, design and comfort.

Nature and Nobility

Cedar, a noble and precious wood, naturally echoes our origins. A symbol of longevity, strength and majesty, it reflects the very essence of CEDRUS creations: rugs conceived to transcend trends, where material, design and craftsmanship come together to create pieces of character.

This vision takes shape through an exclusively Handtufted approach. CEDRUS favours a particularly demanding high-pressure Handtufted technique, achieving exceptional density, remarkable precision in the execution of designs and reliefs, as well as a level of finishing and comfort rarely equalled.

This density also offers remarkable freedom in working with the material. Loops, cut piles, variations in height, volumes and sculpted reliefs allow the design to emerge directly from the surface of the rug. Each creation develops its own tactile identity, where technique no longer simply serves the design but becomes an integral part of it.

Complementarity

Launched in 2025, CEDRUS has developed a universe of its own, conceived in perfect complementarity with ELSEN AND SON. More than a rug brand, CEDRUS offers exclusive designs rooted in an authentic language of elegance and character, bringing a new creative expression of the rug to the House.

The collection is built around a series of pre-established designs, each with its own graphic and tactile identity. These creations are, however, conceived as starting points: every design can be reworked and adapted in size, shape and colour, as well as in the proportions of the design itself, to respond precisely to the characteristics of a space or the requirements of a specific project.

CEDRUS is also a constantly evolving brand. Since its launch, its universe has progressively expanded through the regular introduction of new exclusive designs, continuously enriching the collection and broadening its creative language.

Its complementarity with ELSEN AND SON is also technical. CEDRUS develops its creations exclusively in high-pressure Handtufted, working with dedicated workshops selected for their mastery of this technique and the excellence of their craftsmanship. This specialisation provides exceptional freedom to explore designs, reliefs, textures and combinations of materials, while delivering the density, quality of finish and comfort that define CEDRUS creations.

CEDRUS and ELSEN AND SON thus develop two distinct yet complementary identities, each with its own language, techniques and creative expression, united by the same commitment to quality, customisation and craftsmanship.
