CEDRUS N°2 • KINTSUGI

The Beauty of Scars

KINTSUGI draws its inspiration from the Japanese art of revealing fractures rather than concealing them. Transposed into a rug, this principle gives rise to an organic composition crossed by irregular lines, like sublimated cracks. Each trace becomes an integral part of the design, transforming the idea of imperfection into an aesthetic expression.

Material and Texture

Crafted in 100% New Zealand wool, KINTSUGI combines the softness and density of the fibre with precise surface work. The lines running across the rug fragment the material into irregular forms and emphasise variations in levels and textures, giving the design its depth and character.

The high-pressure Handtufted technique allows these fractures to be rendered with great precision and their presence to be enhanced through relief, while maintaining a dense, generous and exceptionally comfortable surface.

An Ode to Transformation

KINTSUGI expresses the idea that a fracture can become a strength and that imperfection can give rise to a new form of beauty. Between reference to an ancestral tradition and contemporary interpretation, the design transforms traces and irregularities into a true graphic language.

Like every CEDRUS creation, KINTSUGI provides a starting point for a bespoke piece. Dimensions, shape and colours can be adapted to the project, as can the proportions of the design and the scale of its different fractures, preserving the balance of the composition whatever the configuration of the space.
